How do you replace a sprinkler

无标题2

A replacement sprinkler head doesn’t have to be the same brand as the broken head. But it does have to be the same type: pop-up sprinkler, stationary sprinkler or impact sprinkler.
Sprinkler heads in built-in sprinkler systems are susceptible to damage from lawnmowers, debris and bad weather conditions. To replace broken or cracked sprinklers:

1.Deciding which sprinkler to buy
First, find the manufacturer of the sprinkler heads you need to replace, as well as the model number. That information should be printed on top of the head. Also, note the size of the sprinkler as listed on the head. If the head is so damaged that you can't read it, choose another sprinkler head in your yard to get the information from, as all heads in your yard should be the same.

2.Dig out the old sprinkler head
To dig out the old head, dig a hole around one foot away from the sprinkler in all directions. Dig down to the pipe connected to the head. Be careful while digging, not to cut too deep, as it is easy to cut through a irrigation pipe.
Once you've cut a 1-foot round or square patch, carefully remove the sod layer, lifting it straight up. Then, use a hand trowel to carefully scoop out the dirt around the sprinkler head. Remove enough dirt so that you can get both hands around the head.

3.Unscrew the old sprinkler head
Unscrew the old sprinkler head from the pipe by turning the head in a counterclockwise motion. If the head is stuck, use a wrench or pliers to gently pry it loose. Do not get dirt in the irrigation pipe. If you did get dirt into the connection, flush the head by letting water run through it until it runs clear.

4.Add the new sprinkler head
Once you're sure the connection is completely free of dirt, screw the new sprinkler head onto the threaded end of the sprinkler line. Replace the dirt and sod. If your sprinkler head was damaged by a snowplow or a lawn mower, dig the hole a little deeper and make sure that the top of the head sits no more than 1/2 inch above the ground to prevent it from becoming frequently clogged with dirt or grass or leaking from low drainage.
Try plumber's tape around the male thread part for a tight fit. Be sure to check for leaks before you fill the hole back up.

5.Add the nozzleReplace the dirt and grass around the sprinkler head. Make sure it fits tightly on the pipe. Screw the nozzle onto the sprinkler head stem.
